Seit Kaskabasov - a conspicuous statesman and public figure, scientist-folklorist, specialist in study of literature member of NAS RK (2003), Doctor of Philology (1989), Professor (1996), laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1992), recipient of prize named after C. Valikhanov (1986), intergovernmental prize “Stars of Commonwealth” (2011), of prize named after Zhambyl (1996), of prize named after Makhambet (2003), the honored worker of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2010). The first Chairman of State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles of Kazakhstan. In 1997 he opened a Research Center "Eurasianism" in L.N. Gumilyov ENU. In 2000-2001 he was the first Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of L.N. Gumilyov ENU. From 2001 till 2012 – a Director of the M. Auezov Institute of literature and art of Ministry for education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Member of the international society of researchers of oral prose (Finland, 1992), World Academy of Chinggis Khaan (Mongolia, 2005), International Academy of Ajtmatov (Kyrgyzstan, 2007), Union of writers of Kazakhstan (2008). He graduated from Abai Kazakh State Pedagogical Institute (1964) and post-graduate study in M.O. Auezov Institute of literature and art of Academy of Sciences of Kazakh SSR.
Currently Seit Kaskabasov is the chairholder of Kazakh literature of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU. Scientific fields: folk literature, literature, art, ethnology, mythology. He is an author of 11 monographs and more than 400 scientific and literary-critical articles.
