Berdibayev Rakhmankul was a specialist in folklore, a literary critic, a Doctor of Philology (1970), a professor (1983), an honored worker of science of RK (1984), a winner of a Valikhanov award (1990), an honored worker of culture of RK (1992).
Graduated from the faculty of the Kazakh language and literature of the Kyzyl-Orda teacher training college (1949).
A director at high schools of the Southern Kazakhstan area (1949-1953), literary employee, head of department of «Kazak adebiety» newspaper criticism (1954-1959), senior research associate of Institute of literature and art of Academy of Sciences of Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic (1961-1968), responsible secretary of the chief editorial board of the Kazakh Soviet Encyclopedia (1968-1970).

In his researches and monographs devoted to modern Kazakh literature, Berdibayev Rakhmankul developed questions of literature formation and development, in particular of a novel, interrelations and a mutual enrichment of Turkic literatures; analyzed an image of a contemporary, questions of tradition, skill and innovation.
The main direction of folkloristic researches of the scientist was epic oeuvre of the Kazakh people, art of storytellers and akyns. He was a collector of a number of folklore and literary editions, the author of textbooks for the high school, also one of the main authors of History of the Kazakh literature in 6 volumes, published in 1960-1967.
For about 30 years worked as a president of Almaty Public University of literature and art that played a certain role in promotion of scientific knowledge, directed by actual problems of the Kazakh culture. Was a board member of the Union of writers of Kazakhstan and central office of Republican committee on protection of monuments of culture, chairman of the Kazakhstan-Iran society.
