Biography
Zharaskan Abdirashev was born on the 7th of March in 1948 in the Aral region of the Kyzyl-Orda area. 
 
Graduated from philological faculty of the S.M.Kirov Kazakh State University. He worked in the department of literature and art of the Leninshil zhas newspaper, also worked as the editor of department of poetry and criticism of the Zhalyn almanac. Became the member of the Union of writers of the USSR being 21.
 
All his creative life Zharaskan Abdirashev wrote poewms about the Kazakh people, about the things that excited him, about love to the native Steppe, keeping for descendants pure sources of the Kazakh language.
 
Zharaskan Abdirashev published more than 20 books; one of them – the collection of poems «Summer thunder-storms» (Letniye grozy) was translated into Russian by Rimma Kazakova.
 
The pen of the poet possesses some poetic collections for children: What is it? (Chto eto?) (1969), High water (Polovodiye) (1970), Travel (Puteshestviye) (1972); some poetic books such as «Given rise after war» (Rozhdennyiye posle voiny) (1974), «I am the son of steppes» (Ya syn stepey) (1975), «Filial bow» (Synovniy poklon) (1980); a collection of literary critiques «Literature and duty» (Literatura I dolg) (1973).
 
The collection Kulpytas (Epitaph) published after death of the author, included poems, epitaphs and epigrams. The epitaphs written by Zharaskan Abdirashev, became poetic monuments to victims of political repression of the 30th years Ilyas Zhansugurov, Magzhan Zhumabayev, Ahmet Baytursynov. There are epigrams on many prominent politicians of Kazakhstan, officials, writers in Kulpytas.
 
Thanks to Zharaskan Abdirashev the works by A.S. Pushkin, Paul Éluard, A.Blok, the Palestinian poet Muin Beisu are translated into the Kazakh language. The remarkable inheritance remained to children: the translations of Agniya Bartho, Korney Chukovsky and other writers and poets into the Kazakh language.
 
Zharaskan Abdirashev was in the center of public and political life; the poet, the critic, the translator, the winner of the  Magzhan Zhumabayev award, the chairman of the board of poetry of the Union of writers of Kazakhstan, one of organizers of Agrarian party. Zharaskan Abdirashev founded an award for the young talents, subsequently called by his name.
