Leila Makhat kyzy Vekilova (in azerb. Leyla Mahad qızı Vəkilova, was born on January 29, 1927 in Baku – passed away on February 20, 1999 in Baku) - Azerbaij’s Soviet ballerina, honored actress of the USSR (1967).
In 1943 graduated from Baku choreographic school (teacher – Gamer Almaszade). In 1945-46 improved herself in Moscow choreographic school.
Since 1943 she was a teacher in Azerbaijan’s opera and ballet theater, and in Baku choreographic school in 1953.
Since 1972 she was a tutor. In 1976-1982 was head of Azerbaijan’s ensemble of dance.
Among popular parties – Odetta (Tchaikovsky “Swan lake”), Zhizel (Adan, “Zhizel”), Sleeping beauty (Tchaikovsky “Sleeping beauty”), Aisha (Karaev, “Seven beauties”), Shyrin (Arif Melikov “Legend about love”) and others.
Also she acted in a number of movies.
She is buried on the Avenue of honourable burial in Baku.
