Mazhit Begalin is a soviet and Kazakh film director, screenwriter, actor. He was born on February 22, 1922 in Almaty.
He graduated from All-Russian state institute of cinematography on faculty film director in 1948.
Since 1950 he was a film director of movie studio “Kazakhfilm”. Begalin shooted the movie “Степные раскаты” (“Steppe peals”) in 1974. His wife Lyudmila (Olesya) Ivanova has played the role in this film, also his son Nartay executed one of the leading roles. However this movie was not played on the screen. It “has been put on a regiment for the wrong illumination of history of civil war in Kazakhstan”. There is a version that persecutions on a movie have led to Mazhit Begalin's death. The movie has been shown only in 2002 on the Kazakhstan television in days when the 80 anniversary since the birth of the director of the movie was celebrated.
He was awarded with the Silver medal of A. P. Dovzhenko “for works on a heroic-patriotic subject” in 1972.
Honored worker of arts of Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic (1977).
His father is a famous Kazakh writer Sapargali Begalin.
His wife is an actress Lyudmila (Olesya) Ivanova (1925-1995). Son – actor Nartay Begalin (1951-1993).
Mazhit Begalin passed away on May 5, 1978 in Moscow, USSR.
