Biography

Sauketay Turysbek was born on 14 November 1950 in Altay region. In 1968 he finished secondary school Kurshim in East Kazakhstan oblast and entered Kazakh State University, Faculty of Journalism. He started working at the film studio “Kazakfilm” named after Sh. Aimanov in 1975 and had worked there for 16 years.

 

Since 1989 he had worked in the journal “Zhuldyz”. For now he is the editor-in-chief of that journal. He started his creative work with writing poems. His works, among which are “Sut-kenzhe”, “Aily tune edi”, “Kaiyndar, appak kaiyndar”, “Kolenkeler patshalygy” and novels “Ai karangysy”, “Zhelkaiyk” were published.

 

It is worth noting his productive work also in the sphere of translations. He translated over 200 screenplays, novellas of Guy de Maupassant, Ambroz Birz, G. Meyer’s book “Menin omirim”. He is the laureate of International literary award “Alash” (1999).
