Yesenzhol Dombayev was born in 1938 in the settlement Yeltay of the Indersky region of the Guryev area. In 1961 Y. Dombayev graduated from the Kurmangazy State Conservatory. He worked as the deputy director of republican puppet theater, the columnist of the Ara Shmel magazine, the senior editor of a film studio Kazakhfilm. Now Yesenzhol Dombayev is on creative work.
Yesenzhol Dombayev is the author of collections of satirical stories: «Sluchai kotorogo ne bylo» (A case which was not) (1965), «Takoi chelovek» (Such person, 1967), «Tysyacha pervaya ballada pro lubov» (The thousand first ballad about love, 1969), «Moi soratniki» (My colleagues, 1977).
Yesenzhol Dombayev is the author of the one-act plays put by republican folk theaters and the Kazakh television.
Yesenzhol Dombayev translated into the Kazakh language «Chosen stories» of B. Nushich (1968), Chudomir's Monument (1976), translated dubbing-in of a number of feature films.
