Press Release of the Olzhas Suleimenov's meeting with readers
On May 12 at 15.00 h. in the National Academic Library of Republic of Kazakhstan will be the meeting of the readers with the poet, national writer of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of Kazakhstan, public and political figure Olzhas Suleimenov "Uly dalanyn Dara Tulgasy" (Gifted person of the Great Steppe) dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the poet.
At the meeting, Olzhas Suleimenov will tell about the working on his projects, creative plans, also will answer questions from the audience. The works of the poet will be presented at the book fair, dedicated to his life and creative path.
Suleimenov Olzhas Omarovich was born on May 18, 1936 in Almaty. He graduated from the Kazakh State University Geological faculty named after Kirov (now Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi). He began his Literary workings in 1955. In 1958 he entered the Literary Institute in Moscow named after A.M.Gorkiy on the branch of poetic translation, which he completed in 1961. In 1962-1971 years he worked as a literary employee of the newspaper "Kazakhstanskaya Pravda", was the chief editor of the editorial board of scenario-studio "Kazakhfilm", was head of the department of journalism magazine "Prostor". From 1971 to 1981 he was secretary of the Union of Writers of Kazakhstan, and from 1981 to 1983 - Chairman of the State Committee of the Kazakh SSR for Cinematography. Since 1972 - Chairman of the Kazakh Committee on Relations with the writers of Asia and Africa. Since 1983 - the first secretary of the Board of the Writers' Union of Kazakhstan. In 1989 he became the initiator of the movement "Nevada-Semipalatinsk", due to which the nuclear tests at Semipalatinsk were banned. Since 1995 - Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Italy. Since 2002, the representative of Kazakhstan to UNESCO (Paris).
Olzhas Suleimenov ranked among the poets of the sixties, he was a friend of Andrei Voznesensky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Robert Rozhdestvensky. From his pen out of the book: "Earth, bow man!" (1961), "Argamaks" (a collection of poems, 1961), "Solar Night" (1962), "Night-Parisienne" (1963), "Good sunrise" (1964), "featured the lyrics" (1968), "Clay book" (poem, 1969), "Above the white rivers" (poetry and prose, 1970) "Az i Ya" (1975), "code words. Introduction to Universal etymological dictionary "1001 words" (2013) and others.
Olzhas Suleimenov books translated into English, French, German, Spanish, Czech, Polish, Slovak, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Mongolian and Turkish.
