William Shakespeare 450 anniversary and the World book day are celebrated on 23 April
23 April is considered to be William Shakespeare’s anniversary, as well as the World Book day. This year the world celebrates the 450th anniversary of the great English poet and dramatist.
William Shakespeare – a great English national poet, widely considered to be the greatest dramatist and playwright of all time. He lived during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I and made an invaluable contribution to world literature.
It is believed he was born on April 23, 1564, and this date scholars acknowledge as William Shakespeare's birthday. On April 26, 1564 he was baptized at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon.
He wrote in different genres: plays, comedies, sonnets, poems, tragedies, tragicomedies. His most famous tragedies are Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, etc.
Many facts about Shakespeare’s life remain shrouded in mystery as well as the question of his authorship. But it cannot depreciate his great works known all over the world.
23 April is a day of reading, books and literature. It was on 23 April, 1995 when the first World Book day was celebrated. The mission of this holiday is promotion of reading publishing and copyright.
